Lights On! – Gallery Crawl in the Cultural District

Friday night was a fantastic evening after work at Pittsburgh’s Lights On! celebration and Gallery Crawl in the cultural district. From the local galleries, vendor market, Allegheny Riverfront Park, and multiple stages for performances there was so much to explore!

Local Galleries

My first stop was to the SPACE gallery. A friend and I walked through the exhibit they currently have called This Sacred Thing. It was a beautiful exhibit with 37 different artists work.

Below I have some images of my favorite works of art.

All of these pieces were so unique but I really loved the colors in all of the paintings and realism used in the chickens, mountain, and church artworks. The pinball pop art was so creative using technology and old pinball machines.

The next stop that night was to see the work by Matthew Schreiber. Here are two of his pieces I found so fascinating.

The first image to the left was a setup of red laser beams that formed this really interesting and intricate pattern of light. It almost looked like a sculpture and was very mind boggling while walking through the lights as if you were going to bump into something.

The second image to the right would change colors as you walked from one side to the other.

His artwork plays with the concepts of perception which aren’t being shown that well in these photos. Seeing these pieces in person really gives you a much better experience.

Vendor Market

The next stop for the night was the vendors market. There were a lot of different tents with people selling handmade items whether it was clothing, jewelry, cards, trinkets, etc. I didn’t take any pictures due to not wanting to post pictures of others or their work without their consent.

Allegheny Riverfront Park

The last and final stop on my trip downtown was to walk along the Allegheny River.

Me in front of one of the bridges that crosses over the Allegheny River.

The view from the park, just seeing the river and all the bridges across, was absolutely incredible. I am a sucker for great views and this definitely was another great one. I enjoyed just taking a quick walk along the park at sunset and just taking in the view. Great views are always so peaceful and calming for me.

Overall the event and exploring the neighboring area was so great! I can’t wait for the next arts festival or really any other events the cultural district has. It was great getting out and seeing something new and seeing a different part of town.
