My Journey through Self Discovery

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for checking out my portfolio but even more so this new blog of mine. Im super excited to FINALLY start my own blog!

Let me briefly introduce myself here before moving onto the reasons why I created this new blog as well as my plans for it.

My name is Jennifer and I am a self taught User Experience Designer. I just recently graduated with my bachelors at the end of 2020 and have now been a working professional since February.

When I graduated college, I made a big move out of the state I was born and raised in (Sunny Florida) to the state of Pennsylvania where I really didn’t know anyone nor have I ever traveled here. I also moved during the covid-19 pandemic which for everyone has been a rough time.

After I moved here, (of course still in the pandemic with not many friends to hang out with) there was still a big fear of going out and I ended up becoming a hermit in my new apartment binging tv shows after work.

I believe that I already lean more towards being an introvert, but I still of course enjoy spending time with others. As time went on, I started to crave more social interaction. I slowly started to realize that my hermit tendencies were causing me to let life live me by instead of me deciding what I wanted life to be about.

After much thought and self reflection on how the last couple of months had flown by, I decided it was time to take control of what I wanted to do in life, who I want to be, and create the life I want and need to feel fulfilled.

So, why did I end up creating this blog?

The main reason I started this blog is because of Toastmasters (a club for improving your public speaking and leadership). I have been part of this club for 5 years now and I am working through their pathways program. One of the projects I have to complete in this program is to write a compelling blog. The material can be on anything so I have the freedom to talk about anything I want.

I have always wanted to write a blog but never knew what I would even make it about.

After having a lot of time for myself, I have been able to learn more about myself, grow through personal reflection, and learn a lot more about self love. I want to use this platform to really continue working at these things and keep myself accountable for my growth. Maybe someone reading this will be able to gain some value reading through my experiences but if not thats ok too.

What will this blog be about?

This blog is about my personal and continuous journey through self discovery. It will also serve as a platform to document my experiences as well as hold me accountable for documenting them.

The main two topics of this blog will be:

• Trying new/revisiting old hobbies to see what resonates with me.
• Going on new adventures (whether that be traveling to new places, going to events nearby, or experiencing new things).

For hobbies, I have listed below the hobbies that I either want to revisit or try that I haven’t tried before.

Each day the purpose is to be very present while engaging in one of these hobbies. At the end of the night, I’ll document details such as:

• Length of time spent on the hobby
• What I did/made (with photos of course)
• How I felt during that time spent

The second topic I mentioned that would be included in this blog is documenting new adventures. Whenever I venture out to travel somewhere new, go to an event, or any new experience I take, I will post about what I did and how I felt.

As an introvert and a homebody and as someone who has had a lot more free time to herself, I feel I have hit a point where I want and crave to go out and explore (hence my favorite quote under my sites title “Explore. Dream. Discover.”)
